Host a Hive 2020 Program

Join us to increase the honeybee population in our little corner of the Puget Sound. Honeybees are struggling for many reasons, and we need your help to learn more about the specific needs of our bees so we can ensure they are with us for generations to come.

Host a Hive 2020 Program

What we provide

  • We take care of everything, at no cost
  • Two hives per site
  • Depending on honey harvest, we will give host up to one pound of harvested honey per hive (Note: there is no guarantee of honey harvest, especially during the first year)
  • Scheduled visits (approximately weekly during summer)
  • We will give you guidance or we will work out a plan to maintain the grass or weeds near and around the apiary

What you provide

  • Approximately 10’x10′ portion of your chemical-free property
  • Allow us access to your property so that we can maintain the hives
  • For research purposes, you give us permission to collect small amounts of soil and  foliage near the hives. You also give us permission to document the hives/apiary using photography and videography. We do not publish personal information.

What the bees provide

  • Pollination. They especially enjoy apples, blueberries, cherries, chives, thyme, tomatoes….the list goes on and on.
  • Enjoyment. Honeybees help keep the rhythm of the day–they are up and out when the sun hits their hive and return home in the evening. It’s fun to spend morning coffee or afternoon happy hour with the girls
