Installing a new wiring harness

The pile of old wires removed – lots of electrical tape

In my quest to make incremental improvements, it came time to upgrade the wiring. Frankly, I never realized how dangerous the old wiring was until I started removing it. As you can see, many of the wires had been wrapped in electrical tape after the original cloth insulation hardened, cracked, and fell off. There were a few wires completely bare, the worst area probably being immediately behind the headlight buckets – out of view.

My beautiful wife purchased for me a new wiring harness from Classic Parts. It was very reasonably priced, I thought, at $150. As you may be able to see, the wires are each labeled with numbers, so the exercise was basically a “wire by number”. There were a couple things I was briefly puzzled about, but overall it was pretty easy to install. It took about 2 days to do the entire job, the worst of which was working up under the dash.
