Day 2: Moving Bees to Their Home

I’ll have to say, I was a bit stressed, getting started on this project. But, the temp hit 60-degrees, and I needed to move the bees from their temporary nuc/cardboard travel boxes to their new hives.

Process: Working quickly, the process took about 5 minutes each hive. Per guidance, I didn’t take the time to inspect, just moved them into the hives.

Treatment: Each hive was given a pollen patty and sugar syrup to get them going.

Observations
Both Nucs were full, 5 frames, and looked healthy.
And best yet, both nucs had bees with bright yellow pollen sacks! In just one day!! Yay Bellevue Spring.

Hive 1: Bees were very unhappy with me. It took them about 3 hours to settle down. I think the nuc was overcrowded and they needed a bigger home.

Hive 2: Bees in hive 2 seemed less aggressive. Compared to Hive 1 there was less activity but healthy nevertheless.

Next: Weather this coming week is expected to be like PNW summer (70-80-degrees). Hopefully we’ll be off to a good start.
