Berry Patches
The weather here has been warm again this winter, so I’m baking on another early summer. Here are the patches as of February 2016.
Raspberries
I found a local farm called Spooner Farms to buy 50 new raspberry plants. Our original raspberries are summer bearing and the fruit is small. So, I decided on the Caroline variety, which is everbearing and supposedly has large berries.

Marionberries
I really wanted to get my plants from Oregon, but I ended up cheating and bought 4 new plants from the local nursery, the Gray Barn (the plants are from California, in case you’re curious). Since Marionberries spread quickly (in the blackberry family), I decided to house the four new plants in the raised beds. After just a few days, they have started to sprout. Hopefully my interest in homemade Marionberry crisp won’t turn into a forest of sticker-berry-bushes….. You can see the original raspberry patch just next to the fence.
