Rusty Gas Tank

One of the first repair projects required on the truck was to clean out the gas tank. There was a lot of rust and debris in the tank interfering with the fuel pump reed valve operation. The truck would keep dying because of the lack of fuel, and finally got so bad I had to call AAA – using the wife’s membership – to tow it home. I used POR-15 Fuel Tank Repair Kit and a trick I learned from another car guy – put gravel in the tank and shake it to break all the rust free. I also gave it a shiny new paint job on the outside, replaced the fuel level sensor and the holding straps – both purchased from Chev’s of the 40’s.
